Belated Autumn 2014

So for those of you who have been after me for a long time to finally update this blog, this is for you! Yes, these photos are hardly up to date... but weren't they worth the wait? Fall of 2014 at Cascade Bluff was magnificent, folks. It was as though the long long winter, the extremely brief spring, the even shorter summer (a couple of days) finally settled into ... just plain gorgeous. So here goes ... and in the interest of time and to get this posted tonight, in somewhat scrambled order... I give you... Autumn. (Just in time for winter, of course...)

The long lingering green view of August...

Layers of blue and green

Everyone's favorite color, heliotrope...

It's early and sunrise makes the mountain look like fall colors have already hit...

A week goes by and everything starts to change up here...

Mmm... multilayered tapestry...

I am always a sucker for those oranges and reds against the bright blue...

Still lots of green around here...

Some maples just got going faster than others. This one by the workshop was in flame orange earlier than most...
...and this one just east of the house was lemony gold...

This was one of those jewel-tone days... hazy sky and mist makes the colors really glow...

Don't you love the contrasts... and these are both sugar maples!
Here is a series that could be called a study of a labyrinth... From late summer's deep green, through September's glowing gold, and then October's burnished bronze...

I will be sure to take some that will just look black and white very soon...

The entrance to our "maple trail" and some details of the huge variety of maple leaves...

Can't get through a post without showing off at least one of my perennials!

And just in case you think the place was completely abandoned, here is at least one photo proving that we had visitors... Our dear friend Rox, who helped us bark these cedar logs and arrange them along the path for a nice spot to take a break. This will be named "Roxanne's Rest" once I finish all the trail signs...

And one final shot of all the colors together... enjoy, 'cause the color's gonna go away for a while now!
