Real Winter At Last!

We are finally back up at Cascade Bluff after a long sojourn in the city. Lots of things hampered our ability to be back up in the north -- weather, wicked viruses, work. But all that is behind us now and here we are! And as a quick follow up to the last blog post, our road is nicely covered with snow and is completely passable now. Thank you, Casey, and thank you Mother Nature for covering that thick sheet of ice!

And it is really truly winter again. So far February has been pretty snowy, especially in Cook County. Look at all our white stuff!

The woods are sparkling and the snow's deep around those maples...
That far off dark silver band is Madame Superior herself...

Our frozen view of Cascade River... awesome...
...and a good excuse to stop for a few moments for pix of our snowshoe buds, Michele and Dawn... Nice hat, Michele...

Trio of happy snowshoers, staying warm by moving and breaking trail at 5 below F...
...which is perfect weather for being out in the woods!
Makes our cheeks nice and rosy...
More snow piled up and then the winds hit... gusts of 50-60 mph we hear... Our thermometer got down to 12 below but we don't have a way to measure wind velocity up here... yet...
All we can do is check out the amazing wind-sculptured drifts...
A self-portrait from this morning... How do you lke my new neoprene face mask? It certainly is warm... and frosts up my glasses...
I was out getting that load of birch on our sled for our wood stove...
But as is often the case, these frigid temps come with clear skies and lots of sunlight... making solar power at 9 am!
Ahhh... can't resist one last shot of the frosting on the trees...
Rosie says "you all must be nuts to go outside in this weather!"
We're glad to be at our little piece of northern paradise again... check back again soon!
