Big Sky, Big Weather

The weather up at Cascade Bluff is always worth watching. Our view of the sky is enormous, and whether we expect rain, hail, wind, smoke or sun, we always enjoy the spectacle. Here are some images to share with you of recent weather in Our New World.

This interesting shot out over Lake Superior one early morning made me think that some mountains had popped up in Wisconsin and Michigan overnight... oh wait, those are clouds!
Sometimes our skies are gentle with little puff balls floating in blue....
...or sometimes there's something heading our way that looks a bit scarier...
...and our storms can approach from any direction. From off the Big Lake is particularly likely to bring wind, rain and wilder stuff...
But if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute or five, and it will change...
Early frost on the deck railing in mid-September... Gotta run and go grab those tomatoes...
Then there's precipitation. These little white dots are hail pouring off the eaves of the garage roof... Made quite a thundering noise...
....and we had enough hail to carpet the deck...

Sometimes the most interesting view of the sky is straight up!
 Misty Mountain...

Our big fire in the BWCA this summer made for some really interesting weather and skies, too. (There's going to be another blog post all about it, soon...) These orange-smoky clouds  floated above the silver and blue layers of Superior...
This was one ominous looking morning sky!
How about this: a rainbow streaking down out of a cloud of brown smoke!
But later that same day, and in a different direction.... The leprechaun was just outside the edge of this shot...
I call this one "Sculpted Sky"...

And more days than not, we have a fabulous sunset up here. With storms, smoke and wild weather, the evening skies at Cascade Bluff are wonderful.
