A Process

Life is a process... So is a timber frame raising. For reasons beyond the control of mere mortals, our frame is not likely to be a fully raised 3 dimensional object until Thursday... or Friday... and that means that we won't be able to be there to watch. We are really bummed, but as Effie the birding guide from Ecuador said (when the parrots didn't show up for us tourists even when we got up before dawn to walk to the appointed "guaranteed" birding spot) "It is what it is."

Today more timbers were moved into place and more sections of the frame were pre-assembled on the ground.
Come along, little timber...

Just a little more and it'll fit...

Tom and Peter worked hard all day, and from the woods nearby where we were tramping about trying to make a winter access trail their walloping smacks with their mallets against the timbers sounded like cannon shot!

The curved archway for our south porch, as seen from above...

Some joinery detail... That lighter colored piece of wood in the cross-cross
section is called a spline...
The assembled south wall that will hold up the deck...

A surprise rock wall by the garage... we didn't expect it, but we like it...

We had a great time on our walk in the woods, and proved that not all those who wander are lost, even those with a GPS... though there was a moment when we wished for a nice aerial view to help us get where we wanted to go. For you hunters out there, we flushed some ruffed grouse today, heard many more, and even had to chase a few off the road on the way back to town (not the brightest birds in the world...)

Here are all those lovely larch boards for the ceiling,
drying after the assembly-line staining yesterday....

More tomorrow... and our guys up here promise photos of whatever happens when we're not around...
But ol' Lake Superior will still be there, no matter what happens up on Cascade Bluffs.
